DAP Youth has repeatedly claimed that Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan was involved in an alleged attempt to topple the Negeri Sembilan government.
Previously, on April 30, right after the 14 Umno ADUNs had launched a coup on the PH-led Negeri Sembilan state government, a DAP Youth Executive Council Member demanded that Mohamad Hasan be sacked from his position as the foreign minister because of his role in the coup.
Today, DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong has once again doubled down on claims that Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan was involved in an alleged attempt to topple the Negeri Sembilan government.
According to Woo, a leaked May 25 letter from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin to PAS leaders has provided further proof that Tok Mat was involved in the coup.
Now, was Tok Mat involved in the coup?
Well, to cut a long story short, I will speculate that he was inded involved. Not only do I speculate that he was involved, but I would speculate that he was the mastermind of the event.
Why, you ask do I speculate so?
Well, it is because the purported leader of the 14 Umno ADUNs, Jalaluddin Alias, is not "big" enough a person to arrange for something like this.
Also, Zahid Hamidi, the Umno president, was clearly against it.
The way Zahid handled the coup was also so tortuous that you can't help but suspect that there was more to the coup than meets the eye.
Immediately after the coup was launched, Zahid announced that he was informed of the coup, but although he did not approve of it but he didn't stop it either. After the coup was launched, Zahid, however, would use his powers as the president of Umno to force the 14 Umno ADUNs to cease and desist from attempting to topple the Negeri Sembilan state government. That begs the question : If Zahid was going to force the coup to be pulled back after it was launched, why didn't he stop it when he was informed of the coup in the first place?
That Zahid would act in such a contradictory manner makes me believe that that the coup was probably executed without his knowledge. He might have just said that he was informed of it and his consent was sought, to give the presumption that he was still in control of Umno.
That the first reaction of Zahid after the coup was to show that he was still in control of Umno suggests that maybe he is not fully in control of Umno anymore. If Zahid's control of Umno is under threat, then the person who is threatening it is most likely his number two, Mohamad Hasan.
Mohamad Hasan is also an Umno assemblyman in Negeri Sembilan. He also used to be the Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar and served as the Umno Chief of Negeri Sembilan for 19 years. He only left his state position in Negeri Sembilan to take up a federal position in 2023, at which point, Jalaluddin Alias was anointed the new Umno Negeri Sembilan chief.
Considering that Jalaluddin Alias is just a newly elected chief, and considering that, relatively speaking, he is a political lightweight, it is highly doubtful that he is the leader of the coup.
It is hard to believe that the 13 other Umno ADUNs were convinced that Jalaluddin would be able to pull off the coup, when it is known that Umno president Zahid Hamidi would be against it.
Zahid, by the way, has a track record of harshly punishing those who are against him. Even Umno heavyweights like Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin were suspended and expelled respectively, for committing much lesser transgressions against Zahid than what the 14 Negeri Sembilan ADUNs did.
Considering all this, it is unlikely that the Negeri Sembilan ADUNs would have dared to launch the coup unless there was someone powerful behind them who consented to the act, and who would be able to protect them from Zahid's wrath due to their act.
The only person that fits the role of this mastermind is obviously Mohamad Hasan, so indeed, I would speculate that DAP Youth is twice right for naming Mohamad Hasan as the true mastermind behind the Negeri Sembilan coup.
That being the case, however, it is curious as to why DAP Youth is insisting on calling out Mohamad Hasan again today?
When DAP Youth first called out Mohamad Hasan right after the coup occurred, we can estimate what its purpose may have been.
It was to name Mohamad Hasan publicly as the mastermind of the coup, when he did not want to be publicly associated with the coup, as a means of forcing the coup to be pulled back.
The calling out of Mohamad Hasan the first time might have reached its objective too, because the coup was eventually dialed down, even if it was not fully retracted.
But as to why DAP Youth is calling out Mohamad Hasan again today, however, is still a mystery.
The coup in Negeri Sembilan, by the way, might not really just be a case of a power grab in a state. It might actually be a salvo fired by Mohamad Hasan against Zahid's leadership of Umno.
The way I see it, though Zahid Hamidi and Tok Mat might be involved in a power struggle inside Umno, they might not want the public to know that there is a power struggle within Umno.
However, their proxies are moving the pieces, revealing to us that something is brewing inside Umno.
I would speculate that Negeri Sembilan Umno is the proxy of Mohamad Hasan which is being used to destabilize Zahid Hamidi's hold on Umno, and perhaps also sever Umno's ties with PH.
As for DAP Youth, I suspect that it might be the proxy of the Unity Government leadership to throw a spanner in the works of Umno Negeri Sembilan and Mohamad Hasan, to preserve the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan and Putrajaya, as well as keep Zahid Hamidi in control of Umno.
Of course, these are all just my speculations for now.
We will have to see how Tok Mat or his proxies react to the latest allegation by DAP Youth before we can further deduce what is happening in Umno, Negeri Sembilan politics, and the Unity Government.
