Millions of Americans may be eligible for a class-action settlement against Google related to Android mobile devices. The case alleges that certain Android devices sent information to Google without user consent, consuming cellular data in the process. Google has denied any wrongdoing but agreed to a $135 million settlement, which still requires final court approval.
Who Qualifies for the Settlement
To be eligible, claimants must be U.S. residents who used an Android device with a cellular data plan through a mobile carrier at any point since November 12, 2017. Those who were included in a California-only $350 million settlement are not eligible for this nationwide payout. Settlement administrators estimate that around 100 million people may qualify.
Because the total fund is spread across such a large group, initial payouts are expected to be very small, roughly $1 per claimant. Even so, any remaining funds after administration costs, taxes, and fees could be redistributed to prior claimants, potentially raising payments to up to $100 per person.
How to File a Claim
Eligible participants will receive a notice ID and confirmation code via email. These credentials are required to complete a payment election form online. Filing the form ensures that claimants can select their preferred payment method and confirm eligibility.
If a participant does not submit a claim, administrators will attempt to send a payment automatically, though they caution that failure to confirm could prevent receipt. Those who do not wish to participate in the settlement can opt out beforeMay 29, 2026.
Final Court Approval
A final approval hearing is scheduled forJune 23, 2026. Once the settlement is approved, payments will be distributed according to the procedures outlined by the administrators. Timing may vary depending on the number of claimants and the processing of individual claims.
