Andy Burnham cabinet: Who’s in and who’s out as new prime minister announces major reshuffle

  • Andy Burnham has made a number of key appointments to his new cabinet after taking over as prime minister on Monday.
  • In a shock move, John Healey was confirmed as Chancellor, while Ed Miliband was been appointed Foreign Secretary. Shabana Mahmood will remain as Home Secretary.
  • Louise Haigh was named Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, and First Secretary of State, Yvette Cooper was appointed Health Secretary and Pat McFadden will remain as Work and Pensions Secretary.
  • David Lammy (deputy prime minister and justice secretary) Rachel Reeves (Chancellor) and Steve Reed (Housing Secretary) were among the high-profile Cabinet ministers to leave their roles on Monday. Ms Reeves is understood to have turned down an offer from Mr Burnham for another senior role in Government.
  • Other key departures were Peter Kyle (business secretary), Liz Kendall (technology secretary) and attorney general Lord Richard Hermer.
