• Andy Burnham achieved a resounding victory in the Makerfield by-election, supported by several high-profile celebrities.
• Actors Hugh Grant and Steve Coogan have publicly backed Burnham, with Grant attending a campaign rally on Wednesday and Coogan featuring in a campaign video earlier this week.
• Coronation Street actor Sally Lindsay expressed her long-standing support for Burnham ahead of the by-election. “I think he’s a very singular politician who really, really cares about the people he’s working for,” she said in a video.
• Former Countdown presenter Carol Vorderman also endorsed Burnham, celebrating his win in an Instagram video. “It’s like, finally, we’re gonna have someone who thinks about places outside the South East. And it’s just gonna be marvellous, Andy Burnham for prime minister,” she added.
