- EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has cancelled a planned visit to Serbia after the country gave convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic an elaborate military funeral.
- Mladic, known as the Butcher of Bosnia, died aged 84 in a UN prison in The Hague, where he was serving a life sentence for genocide and war crimes.
- His coffin was wrapped in a Serbian flag and carried by soldiers as his body lay in state in Belgrade, ignoring warnings from the European Union.
- Ms Kos warned that glorifying Mladic is incompatible with EU values and reconciliation, putting Serbia's bid for EU membership at risk.
- Serbia continues to refuse to acknowledge its role in the Balkan wars or recognise the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslims as genocide.
