- American Airlines is introducing new restrictions on portable chargers for passengers, citing concerns over lithium battery fires.
- From Friday, passengers will be limited to two portable lithium chargers, each not exceeding 100 watt-hours, which must be kept visible and not stored in overhead bins.
- The airline also prohibits recharging portable chargers onboard and directs customers to keep them easily accessible during flights.
- These measures follow warnings from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) about over 700 verified lithium battery incidents involving smoke, fire, or extreme heat on aircraft since March 2006.
- Other carriers, including Southwest Airlines, have also recently updated their policies, while United Airlines and Delta Air Lines maintain similar rules regarding power bank watt-hour limits in carry-on luggage.
