The Maran District Police Chief, Superintendent Wong Kim Wai, shared that the bus, driven by a 38-year-old man, slammed into the back of a lorry in the left lane of the highway.

“At the time of the incident, the trailer lorry was travelling straight in the left lane when it was suddenly hit from behind by the bus carrying 28 passengers, including university students,”

“No injuries were reported involving all the victims, including the drivers of both vehicles, while all the passengers were transferred to a replacement bus before continuing their journey to Kuantan,” he said.

Superintendent Wong Kim Wai added that the accident is believed to have been due to the negligence of the bus driver, who failed to control the bus while travelling in the same lane as the lorry.

This case is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The students

Meanwhile, the President of the UMPSA Student Representative Council (MPP), Haykal, shared that the 20 UMPSA students who were on the bus were unharmed and arrived safely at the UMPSA Mosque compound at the Gambang Campus at around 3:56am, where the MPP members greeted and escorted them to their respective departments.
