Residents of one of Delhi’s poshest colonies — Jor Bagh — may soon witness another high-profile renaming exercise in the national capital.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), led by vice-chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal, has proposed renaming Jor Bagh as “Anupam Colony”.

To formalise the proposal, Chahal has called a gathering in the elite locality on Sunday morning.

The occasion will feature two events. The first is a sapling plantation drive under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, the Centre’s ongoing campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The second is an NDMC declaration regarding the proposed renaming of Jor Bagh Colony as Anupam Colony.

An NDMC invitation issued on Saturday and accessed by The Tribune states: “Under the visionary leadership of Narendra Modi, New Delhi Municipal Council is organising Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam on Sunday. There will also be a declaration of naming of Jor Bagh Colony as Anupam Colony by Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Vice Chairperson, New Delhi Municipal Council.”
