LAHAD DATU: Wildlife rangers shot dead another unusually large crocodile - a 16-footer weighing some 800kg – behind a villager's house in Kampung Remang, here, on Thursday.

Lahad Datu Wildlife Department officer Silvester Saimin said a team went to the location upon receiving information regarding crocodile sightings in the area.

He said eight shots were fired around 10.37pm at the male crocodylus porosus crocodile which was later brought to the Wildlife Department to be disposed.

He added that the villagers applauded the action and thanked the department for resolving the human-crocodile conflict which endangered their safety.

Silvester reminded the villagers to exercise caution and keep their children away from the area, and the public to notify the department of any crocodile sightings.

On Monday, a crocodile weighing 1.2 tonnes was shot dead by wildlife rangers under a house in Kampung Desa Bajau (water village) at 8.50pm.

The crocodile, which had almost attacked a child, was initially restrained by Civil Defence Force personnel who had to call in wildlife rangers as it was too large and aggressive.
