Following the recent release of the placements for prospective students, some Malaysian have shared how despite their excellent academic results, they weren’t offered an admission to a local university.

This has led to a dispute online where some users condemned the admissions process in the country for not being able to guarantee that you’d be able to secure a place no matter how brilliant or talented you may be.

Recently, yet another prospective student took to her Facebook to condemn the admissions process for not offering her any spots at local universities despite the fact that she managed to get a CGPA of 3.92.

In her Facebook post, Lam Sin La wrote, “Yes, I’m one of the unlucky students who didn’t get any offer from UPU. I got 3.92 for my STPM but I got nothing. Wondering what’s wrong.”

“Some people who got lower pointers than me actually got offers from UPU. Really unfair. Please help. What can I do now? I’m really desperate to get into public university. I applied for Business and Economics. My merit mark is 97.3%. I am also qualified for all the courses I applied,” she added.

In the post, she also included pictures of the subjects she did at STPM, her results, as well as the UPU notice which rejected her from local universities.

In an interview with WORLD OF BUZZ, Sin La who is based in Kuala Terengganu said that she applied for business, economics and UM law.

“I did the interview for UM law but didn’t get it since I didn’t get any offers from UPU. Few years ago, some of my seniors who got a CGPA of 3.8 could already enter UM,UKM or UPM for their economics course.”

“But this year, I didn’t. But I’m sure that many other students are also facing the same situation as me,” she explained.

Speaking about her initial reaction to getting rejected, Sin La said, “I didn’t believe it at first as I thought I used the wrong link. But after multiple times of checking, it kept showing ‘Tidak Berjaya’. I am extremely disappointed and sad because I worked really hard to get the course I want.”

She has also submitted her appeal in hopes of getting a placement, but she pointed out that there aren’t many courses under the appeal process.

“UPU should prioritise the students who get high grades first. For example, 3.5 and above.”

We hope that Sin La’s appeal process is successful and that she gets the course she has worked hard for.
