Another Malaysian Haj pilgrim dies of heart attack in Mecca

ANOTHER Malaysian pilgrim has died during this year’s Hajj season in the Holy Land, bringing the total number of Malaysian fatalities to 11 for the 1446H/2025M pilgrimage season.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, confirmed that the deceased, Jamaliah Masron, 68, passed away at 6.05pm (Saudi Arabian time) on Monday at the Emergency Clinic of the Abraj Al Janadriyah building in Mecca due to a heart attack.

“She was from Kota Tinggi, Johor,” he said in a statement.

“The Pilgrims Fund Board (Tabung Haji) has informed her next-of-kin in Malaysia. On behalf of the government and Tabung Haji, I extend our deepest condolences to her family. Let us all pray that her soul is blessed and granted mercy,” he added.

All funeral arrangements, including the ritual cleansing, funeral prayer at Masjid al-Haram, and burial in the Holy City of Mecca, were managed by Tabung Haji.

This marks the 10th death due to heart attacks among Malaysian pilgrims this season. One other pilgrim had previously died on 4 June from a bacterial infection and organ failure. - June 11, 2025
