A disturbing video circulating on social media has left Malaysians shocked, as it shows a woman being physically assaulted by a man at a traffic light junction in Shah Alam. The incident, which reportedly took place in the early hours of the morning, features a barefoot woman dressed in a traditional baju kurung desperately pleading for help before being attacked in the middle of the road.
The alarming footage was captured by a passerby and quickly went viral online, drawing widespread anger and concern. The video shows the woman trying to escape before the man confronts and assaults her in full view of the public.
Police have since confirmed the incident occurred in Taman Budiman Valley, Section U15, Shah Alam. Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim, said a 24-year-old woman came forward to lodge a police report at 4:35am on the same day the video surfaced. According to her statement, she and a friend were driving along Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari in a Perodua Axia when the barefoot woman flagged them down and asked for help.
“A Malay woman, dressed in baju kurung and barefoot, signalled for help by stopping their vehicle,” said Mohd Iqbal. However, it remains unclear what happened afterward, and authorities have confirmed that the woman seen in the viral video has yet to make any police report herself.
The victim’s identity is still unknown, and her silence is hindering further investigation. Police are urging the woman to come forward immediately so that they can provide her with the necessary assistance and proceed with a formal investigation into the incident.
Authorities are now urging the victim to lodge a report so they can begin proper legal procedures and ensure her safety.
Authorities are also appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess any relevant information to help identify the individuals involved. Anyone with details is encouraged to contact the Shah Alam IPD Operations Room at 03-55202022 or reach out to Bukit Jelutong Police Station Chief, Inspector Mohamad Amzar Mohamad Shuffie, at 013-6666657.
Proactive measures must be taken to create a safer environment for women—this includes better street lighting, public awareness campaigns, and widespread access to emergency hotlines and shelters. Educational programs targeting young people about consent, respectful behavior, and bystander intervention could also help shift cultural attitudes and reduce tolerance for abuse.
Mental health support, legal guidance, and safe housing are essential parts of the recovery process for survivors. Community involvement and encouragement for victims to come forward without fear of stigma or retaliation are also critical to improving response and justice outcomes.
