The permit for the bus company involved in the crash along the East–West Highway (Jalan Raya Timur-Barat, JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik, on June 9, which claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students, has been revoked with immediate effect.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the decision during a special press conference earlier today (Wednesday), according to Sinar Harian.

“No appeals will be entertained”

Loke explained that while companies normally have the option to appeal permit cancellations, no appeals will be considered in this case due to the severity of the incident.

The deadly crash happened around 1 AM on Monday (June 9), claiming the lives of 15 students and injuring 27 others. The bus driver and his 54-year-old assistant were also hurt in the accident.

Investigations suggest the bus, which was travelling from Terengganu to the UPSI campus in Tanjung Malim, rear-ended a Perodua Alza, lost control, overturned, and crashed into the road divider.
