As we all know, PDRM and JPJ used to give yearly discounts for summonses, and many would let their summonses accumulate and only pay them back during those campaign periods.

PDRM is still giving these discounts; however, the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, has said that JPJ will not be offering any discounts for summonses to send the right message, reported BERNAMA.

This comes after several people had approached the JPJ booth during the unity government anniversary celebration asking for discounts and were disappointed when no discounts were given.

Anthony Loke apologised for that and said he has been practising a no-discount policy since becoming the Minister of Transport in 2018.

“I cancelled more than four million summonses from the automated enforcement system. Many people welcomed it at the time, but it was a one-off decision and not intended to set a precedent.”

He added that different agencies have different considerations, “Other agencies, like the police, may have different considerations, but JPJ is under the transport ministry and is responsible for road safety issues.”

“We want to send a message to the public that the summons is to educate. If we give discount, it would not be fair to those who paid their summonses within the stipulated time.”

Well, that’s certainly true. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments.
