Last week, a motorcyclist was tragically killed in a road accident which saw him being flung several metres into the air before landing on top of a Perodua Myvi.

The incident has since triggered an outpouring of anger and grief from Malaysians, with many calling for harsh penalties to be meted out against the driver.

Widow visited by MOT minister

The case has also caught the attention of Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who personally visited the widow of the victim, Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, at her home yesterday (Apr 1).

In a Facebook post, Loke wrote that during the visit, he provided financial assistance to Nor Nadia so that it could help lighten the family’s burden.

However, he admitted that no amount of money could ever make up for the loss of her husband, especially given now that she has to raise three kids on her own.

“I deeply understand the grief being felt and extend my heartfelt sympathy and solidarity to the family as they face this difficult time.

“May they be granted strength and resilience to endure this trial.”

Also at the visit alongside Loke was Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.

Victim’s kids struggling to cope

Meanwhile, Nor Nadia told NST her children are still coming to terms with their father’s passing and that it was affecting her eldest child deeply.

He looks more withdrawn now. Sometimes, he asks about what happened. I am worried that he may feel guilt as his father was killed on the way to buy his schoolbook.

“As for my youngest child, she has yet to fully understand what happened and continues to ask for her father,” she said.

Nor Nadia added that she plans to move back to Kampung Repoh in Batu Kurau to be closer to her family and look for work to raise her kids.

The driver, who tested positive for drugs and alcohol, has since been charged with murder in court.
