- Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic has announced it is pledging 5 per cent of its stock to a newly created Anthropic Public Benefit Fund to support non-profit donations and direct distributions to specific populations.
- The fund will expand upon Anthropic's existing $200 million allocation for studying the labour market impacts of AI, addressing the need for bolder social measures as artificial intelligence rapidly advances.
- Chief Executive Dario Amodei and five co-founders have pledged to donate 80 per cent of their wealth, whilst an employee equity match scheme allows staff to pledge stock alongside corporate contributions.
- In total, roughly 20 per cent of Anthropic's shares will now be directed towards the public good, with the potential for further equity allocations if the firm achieves specific valuation milestones.
- The major philanthropic pledges arrive as Anthropic prepares for a potential initial public offering that could take place as early as November.
