KOTA KINABALU: Victims of bullying will soon have a new avenue for redress through a proposed Anti-Bullying Tribunal aimed at expediting civil cases and providing victim-centred resolutions, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Dato’ Sri Azalina Othman Said.
She said the tribunal, to be tabled in Parliament soon, will act as a quasi-judicial body for civil matters without overlapping with criminal proceedings.
It will allow victims dissatisfied with internal rulings to seek compensation or apologies within 60 to 90 days, similar to the Sexual Harassment Tribunal process.
Criminal elements in bullying cases will remain under police and court jurisdiction.
The tribunal, she added, will only have powers to impose fines, compensation, or apologies and not jail terms.
