Search operations were launched across multiple areas in Poonch district, days after an infiltrator was killed along the Line of Control (LoC).
The operations aimed to detect suspected terrorists in the forested region. Security personnel, including Army and police teams, conducted a large-scale combing operation covering more than five areas to trace militants believed to be active in the district.
Following the killing of the infiltrator in Krishna Ghati sector along the LoC, security arrangements have been strengthened with additional checkpoints and thorough vehicle inspections.
Unconfirmed reports suggested the possible presence of a terrorist in the area, though security agencies have not verified this.
Lt General PK Mishra, GOC of Army’s White Knight Corps, recently visited the Akhnoor sector to review operational preparedness along the LoC. Officials said he commended all ranks for Army-BSF coordination, vigilance, and sustained operational dominance.
“He also appreciated the formation’s thrust on capability development, technology infusion, and adaptive preparedness to counter emerging security challenges,” the official added.
Lt General Pratik Sharma, GOC-in-Chief Northern Command, had visited forward areas of Poonch and the Romeo Force Headquarters on May 12 to review counter-terrorism operations. He was briefed on domination activities across the Pir Panjal Range, intelligence networks, and coordination among agencies.
He also reviewed the security arrangements made by Rashtriya Rifles Battalions for the annual migration of Gujjar-Bakarwals.
On May 12, the Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch killing an intruder who was trying to cross from Pakistan.
