(UPDATE) MORE than 252,000 registered voters in the second legislative district of Antipolo City are set to head to the polls on Saturday, March 14, for a special election to fill the seat of a member of the House of Representatives.
According to the Office of the Deputy Executive Director for Operations of the Commission on Elections (Comelec), a total of 252,793 voters are eligible to cast their ballots across the district’s eight barangay (villages). The vote will be held in 37 voting centers, encompassing 348 clustered precincts.
Six candidates are vying for the position. They are Philip Conrad Acop (National Unity Party), and independents Maria Trinidad Cafirma, Dandin Infante, Reden Llaga, Nathaniel Lobigas, and Irvin Paulo Tapales.
The voting schedule is broken down into several categories. Early voting for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and other eligible voters under early voting rules will run from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Priority polling place voting follows from 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Regular voting is scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) will cast their votes from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at a dedicated voting center located at the BJMP-Antipolo City Police Station in Barangay San Jose. A total of 234 PDL voters are expected to participate.
Divided into eight barangay, the district’s voter populations are as follows: San Jose (74,007), San Roque (36,454), Calawis (5,383), Cupang (42,953), Dalig (33,595), Inarawan (18,410), San Juan (7,057), and San Luis (34,934).
The District Board of Canvassers will convene at 6:00 p.m. at the Ynares Event Center to receive and canvass the election returns and eventually proclaim the winning candidate.
