Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur has criticised the delay in shifting Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College to its newly constructed campus in the Nadaun Assembly constituency, noting that the facility has been ready for nearly two years.

During a visit to the campus yesterday, Thakur stated that the public has a right to know who is responsible for the stalling the shifting to new campus. He highlighted that securing Central Government approval for the Rs 300 crore project required immense effort, making the ongoing delay particularly frustrating.

According to Thakur, despite the buildings being completed two years ago, regular classes for 600 students had yet to commence and outpatient department (OPD) services remained unavailable at the new site.

Questioning the state government’s inaction, Thakur asked what was holding up operations when the infrastructure was fully in place. He recalled that while the foundation stone was laid in 2017, the then-Congress government delayed initial progress by stalling land availability. He alleged that the Congress governments had consistently delayed the project, leaving the new campus inoperative despite its completion.

Thakur added that the delay had deprived the general public of doorstep access to quality healthcare, demanding that the state government explain why the prestigious institution was not being utilised.
