KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong held a lengthy meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties.
The discussion, lasting nearly three hours, centred on enhancing cooperation and resolving outstanding issues between the two nations.
Anwar expressed deep appreciation for Wong’s visit, which he said reflected the strong friendship between Malaysia and Singapore.
He noted the meeting’s significance as it was held at the historic Seri Negara mansion.
This venue witnessed the signing of the Federation of Malaya Agreement in 1948 and the Independence Agreement in 1957.
“May this meeting, together with the blessings of Ramadan, continue to nurture lasting understanding and prosperity for the people of Malaysia and Singapore,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.
The two leaders also toured the mansion and received a briefing on its conservation through the Warisan Kuala Lumpur initiative.
Anwar hosted Wong for breaking of fast followed by a one-on-one discussion over dinner.
Wong arrived in Malaysia at 4.05 pm and departed after concluding his special visit.
The Foreign Ministry had stated both leaders would discuss bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest.
This included outcomes from the Singapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat held on December 4 last year.
Singapore remains Malaysia’s second-largest trading partner.
Total bilateral trade reached RM402.35 billion in 2025, marking a 1.5% increase from 2024.
