KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced the expansion of the FLYsiswa flight ticket subsidy in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri festival, during the monthly assembly of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Anwar said the expansion is aimed “to help more university students return to their hometowns.”

However, details on how the subsidy will be expanded were not disclosed. In 2025, eligible public university students received a subsidy of RM400 per person.

Alongside the FLYsiswa announcement, Anwar also revealed that Phase 2 of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) will be brought forward, with disbursements beginning tomorrow.

According to him, the government has increased the allocation to RM1.3 billion, up from RM1.1 billion in January.

Anwar further stressed the importance of monitoring essential goods supply ahead of the festive season. “I stressed to KPDN the need to intensify monitoring and enforcement ahead of Aidilfitri to prevent price manipulation by irresponsible parties and to ensure sufficient supply of goods,” he said.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed developments in West Asia and measures to minimise the impact of the ongoing conflict. One of the key issues raised was the surge in global oil prices affecting the domestic market.

“The government’s approach is to balance public welfare while maintaining the country’s fiscal discipline,” Anwar added. — March 9, 2026
