Anwar says Malaysia is exploring strategic investments with 21 Chinese companies across semiconductors, AI, robotics and advanced manufacturing
SHANGHAI: A roundtable discussion with industry leaders from 21 leading Chinese companies here focused on various high-impact sectors, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, as Malaysia explores high-value strategic investments, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The discussion also touched on the potential of electric vehicles (EVs), battery materials, advanced optics, biotechnology, healthcare, specialty chemicals and advanced manufacturing.
“I also heard directly from industry players about their plans and aspirations, including the opportunities they see in Malaysia and the steps needed to realise these investments.
“The MADANI Government will continue to facilitate quality investments that bring technology transfer, develop local talent, strengthen the participation of Malaysian companies and create more quality job opportunities,” he said in a post on X following the meeting.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said Malaysia has a strong foundation to continue developing as a high-value investment and manufacturing hub in the region, supported by a mature industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, strategic location and strong supply chain networks.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook also participated in the discussion.
China has been Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching US$113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) from January to August this year.
Anwar arrived here on Tuesday for a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou.
