SEBERANG PERAI, Aug 28 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he will be including an allowance for Form Six students under Budget 2027, which is due to be tabled in October.

He said the government decided this after feedback from pre-university students who noted that there was no government allowance for those in Form Six.

“From Year One until Form Five, there are allowances. There are allowances at university level. But Form Six and pre-university students do not have them,” he said at the IPG Tuanku Bainun campus here today.

“So in our Budget this October, I will include an allocation and allowance for Form Six students,” he said.

However, Anwar did not disclose the amount of the allowance or details on eligibility and implementation.

“We will need to look into our financial capacity before announcing the amount we plan to approve,” he explained.

The prime minister said education continued to receive the largest allocation under the Madani government’s federal budgets because it was central to the country’s future.

However, he acknowledged that resources remained insufficient despite the higher allocation.

“Is it enough? Not yet. But every ministry and department says the same thing — it is still not enough,” he said.

Anwar said access to quality education must continue to be expanded and made available for students from all backgrounds, including those from poor urban and rural families, villages, estates and remote areas.

He said Malaysia’s success would be measured by whether children from disadvantaged communities could access opportunities to become professionals, educators, civil servants and specialists in fields such as artificial intelligence and the semiconductor industry.
