PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians to reject divisive rhetoric and shift their focus towards the country’s long-term development, particularly in the context of the ongoing Ayer Kuning by-election.
Addressing over 15,000 attendees at the Perak-level MADANI Aidilfitri celebration at Indera Mulia Stadium, Anwar emphasised the importance of building a forward-looking nation through investment in digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the training of young Malaysians in engineering and other emerging fields.
“I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that we must not be complacent, not take things lightly, and not be swayed by the rhetoric we hear in Ayer Kuning,” Bernama cited him saying.
“We are now talking about digitalisation, AI, the country facing tariffs, training our children in engineering, and nurturing new talent, yet the focus of debate is on Christianity, the Chinese, and DAP. I’m not saying these topics are off-limits, but let’s turn our attention to the future.”
Anwar expressed confidence in Malaysia’s ability to attract foreign investment and elevate its standing on the global stage, provided the country maintains political stability, clear policies, and efficient governance.
“Although I’m getting older, I remain optimistic and full of hope because I genuinely love this country. Seeing the capabilities of our youth and people, I am confident we can uplift the dignity of all communities,” he said.
He also stressed the need for clean and stable leadership, warning against influences that could undermine the efficiency of the public service.
“Malaysia can rise to greater heights if supported by clean leadership and a government administration that is not easily affected by elements that weaken public service machinery,” Anwar added.
The Prime Minister’s visit to Perak was part of a one-day working tour. - April 26, 2025
