Anwar condemns Israeli strike on Doha as ‘barbaric violation of sovereignty’

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli airstrike in Doha, describing it as a “barbaric act of aggression” and a “blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty.”

In a statement published on his official Facebook page, Anwar warned that the strike, which reportedly targeted Hamas leadership in the Legtaifiya district of the Qatari capital, poses a serious threat to international peace and security.

“This inhumane act of aggression is a clear violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and a grave breach of international law,” he said.

“It endangers civilian lives, targets a sovereign capital, and risks further destabilising an already fragile region.”

Anwar stressed that by striking Qatar—a country which plays a significant role in fostering peace and dialogue in the Middle East—Israel has demonstrated a “blatant disregard for peace and diplomacy.”

“Malaysia stands firmly in solidarity with Qatar and calls on the international community to hold Israel accountable for this excessive and inhumane aggression,” he added.

He further urged for immediate global action to address what he described as an escalating pattern of unlawful military provocations by Israel in the region.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of Malaysia in Doha confirmed that no Malaysians were harmed in the strike, which was reportedly aimed at a Hamas office in Legtaifiya. Nonetheless, all Malaysians in Qatar have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid the affected area.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar has confirmed that the explosion was the result of an Israeli attack on a Hamas leader’s office in the Legtaifiya district,” the embassy said in a statement.

Malaysian nationals in Qatar are urged to monitor official updates from local authorities and seek consular assistance if needed. The embassy assured that the situation remains fully under control and that Qatar’s airspace remains open.

For consular assistance, Malaysians in Qatar may contact the embassy at [mwdoha@kln.gov.my](mailto:mwdoha@kln.gov.my) or call +974 4483 6463 during office hours and +974 3374 6733 after hours.

According to media reports, Israel carried out the targeted strike in Qatar as part of its widened military campaign against Hamas leadership across the Middle East. A senior Israeli official confirmed to Reuters that the attack specifically aimed at Hamas figures residing in Qatar.

Al Jazeera, citing Hamas sources, reported that the strike also impacted key members involved in ongoing ceasefire negotiations over Gaza. - September 10, 2025
