PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has condemned military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran during a telephone conversation with the country’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, according to Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the call, Anwar conveyed his condolences to the Iranian government and people following the death of the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as to Iranians who were killed in the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel.
Iran’s foreign ministry said in a statement posted on the social media platform X on Friday that the Malaysian leader “strongly condemned the military aggression by the US and Israel against Iran”, describing the actions as contrary to international rules, principles and moral norms.
“The Malaysian Prime Minister also referred to the political negotiations he is currently undertaking with regional leaders and urged that the war of aggression be halted immediately and that peace and stability in the region be restored, adding that Malaysia will make every possible effort in this regard,” the ministry said.
The statement added that Anwar had referred to the political discussions he is currently conducting with leaders of regional countries and called for the “war of aggression” to be halted immediately and for peace and stability to be restored in the region, while adding that Malaysia would make every possible effort in this regard.
Araghchi thanked Malaysia for its message of condolence and for its stance condemning what he described as US and Israeli military aggression against Iran, including the killing of the country’s leader and Iranian civilians.
He also said Iran harboured no hostility towards countries along the Persian Gulf and remained committed to a policy of good neighbourliness and friendship with states in the region.
Araghchi further expressed regret that the territory of Islamic countries in the region had been exploited during the holy month of Ramadan by what he described as US aggressors to launch attacks on an Islamic nation and to kill Muslims. - March 7, 2026
