PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated popular Tamil film actor C. Joseph Vijay, whom he described as his friend, for becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
According to Anwar, for years, Vijay's loyal fans have watched him defeat corrupt politicians and various villains in a span of three hours, usually after a short interlude.
However, he added, now the people of Tamil Nadu have entrusted Vijay with a responsibility far greater than any character he has ever played on the silver screen.
"Oru Viral Puratchi — the "one-finger revolution" — is now on the verge of making history.
"Malaysia and Tamil Nadu share deep historical, cultural and people-to-people ties spanning generations.
"I look forward to working closely with Chief Minister Vijay in the years to come," he said via Facebook today.
The Oru Viral Puratchi refers to Vijay’s 2018 political blockbuster, Sarkar, which depicted Vijay as a prominent business magnate entering politics to take down a corrupt government.
Yesterday, Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu after his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party managed to secure a majority support.
The victory completed a dramatic political journey following the hanging of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) results after the state election results were announced on May 4.
Vijay, better known as ‘Thalapathi’ Vijay’, successfully formed the state government, ending the dominance of the two main Dravidian parties after TVK secured significant support through several strategic alliances. – May 12, 2026
