Anwar, deputy, ministers to head to Batang Kali landslide site

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, his deputy, and two ministers will be heading to the landslide site at Batang Kali, where two people have been found dead and scores missing.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil today tweeted that Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming will be visiting the site.

Fahmi also cautioned the public to only share verified information on the incident.

Earlier, Nik Nazmi and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail tweeted separately that they will be heading to the incident site today.

Nik Nazmi also prayed for the missing to be found in safe conditions, adding that search-and-rescue operations have been ongoing since early morning.

According to an alert sent to the press, Nga and Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs and Special Functions Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department) will be at the search operations centre at 12.30pm at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite.

As of 10.15am, eight people were found dead and 60 were rescued after an early morning landslide took place at a campsite in Batang Kali.

Around 7am, Selangor Fire and Rescue director Datuk Norazam Khamis said 37 people were rescued while three were found with injuries.

The search-and-rescue operations for the missing people are ongoing.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa will be at Selayang Hospital before 11am to be briefed on the victims’ medical condition. – The Vibes, December 16, 2022
