Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim wishes Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta a happy 76th birthday, highlighting close bilateral ties and ASEAN cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended birthday wishes to Timor-Leste President Dr Jose Ramos-Horta, who turned 76.

In a social media post, Anwar expressed hope for good health, success, and wisdom for the Timorese leader in the year ahead.

“Happy birthday to my dear friend, President Dr Jose Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste,” Anwar wrote.

He added that Malaysia values the close friendship and strategic cooperation with Timor-Leste, particularly in strengthening ASEAN ties.

The Prime Minister also hopes bilateral relations will continue to grow for the mutual benefit and regional prosperity of both nations.

Born on December 26, 1949 in Dili, Ramos-Horta is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

He played a crucial role in Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence and subsequent nation-building.

Timor-Leste was officially admitted as an ASEAN member during the 47th ASEAN Summit in October, held under Malaysia’s chairmanship.
