PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended greetings to the Tamil, Sikh and Malayalee communities in Malaysia in conjunction with the celebrations of Tamil New Year Chithirai, Hari Vaisakhi and Vishu.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Anwar expressed hope that the new year celebrations would bring peace of mind, lasting health and abundant blessings to those observing the occasions.

In this spirit, let us continue to safeguard unity with full awareness and responsibility so that Malaysia remains strong as a prosperous and harmonious nation.

“The diversity we have inherited is the foundation that unites us in a bond of togetherness, with a spirit of mutual respect, understanding and mutual strengthening,” he said.

The Prime Minister said Malaysia’s diversity should continue to serve as a foundation for unity, stressing the importance of mutual respect, understanding and collective strength in maintaining national harmony.

Tamil New Year marks the first day of the Tamil calendar year, while Vaisakhi signifies the harvest season according to the Sikh and Punjabi calendar and is being celebrated today.

Vishu, observed tomorrow by the Malayalee community, marks the beginning of the Malayalam calendar year and symbolises renewal and prosperity. - April 14, 2026
