PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim delegates full deputy presidential duties to Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail during Nurul Izzah Anwar’s leave of absence.
MELAKA: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today gave full mandate to vice-president Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to carry out the duties of the party’s deputy president.
Anwar said although the new responsibility could be seen as an additional burden for Saifuddin Nasution, the Home Minister would have to shoulder the role as the incumbent, Nurul Izzah Anwar, would be taking a temporary leave of absence.
“So, I think my old friend, most loyal and whom I have known for a very long time and understands (how I work), to continue this work as deputy president.
“I hope that with this announcement, the entire Keadilan machinery will give him their full support, cooperation and loyalty,” he said when delivering his winding-up speech at the PKR National Congress 2026 at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here today.
On Aug 6, PKR Information Chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said that the party’s Central Leadership Council (MPP) agreed for Saifuddin Nasution to assume the duties of deputy president on an interim basis after granting Nurul Izzah a temporary leave of absence.
Anwar also announced that another vice-president, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, had been appointed as the party’s election director, while Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz had been appointed as coordinator in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Commenting on the leadership position in Negeri Sembilan, Anwar asked Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to focus fully on his duties as the party’s vice-president and on the training portfolio to empower new PKR members.
Anwar said the former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar’s extensive experience was needed to steer the party’s cadre development agenda at various levels.
“Aminuddin is still needed; experience should teach him and teach us. Aminuddin, focus on your role as vice-president, which is to provide the best possible training to our young members, that is your new duty,” he said.
Anwar said he would personally respond to the demands of six Negeri Sembilan PKR division chiefs calling for a review of Aminuddin’s position as chairman of the Negeri Sembilan PKR State Leadership Council.
The Prime Minister said PKR’s defeat in the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1 should not be blamed solely on Aminuddin, but rather should be shouldered collectively.
“So, let us accept this outcome and correct the mistakes. Hopefully, we can improve (the party’s performance) again,” he added.
