Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on December 30, 2025, commended the cohesion within the Unity Government, describing it as a partnership founded on sincerity and mutual trust, while drawing a clear contrast with the political instability unfolding within the opposition-led administration in Perlis.
Speaking at a press conference in Putrajaya, Anwar said the governing coalition was held together by strong cooperation and shared responsibility, allowing it to function without internal sabotage or acts of betrayal. He noted that this sense of discipline and unity differentiated the Unity Government from developments seen among opposition parties, particularly in Perlis, where recent political shifts have exposed deep fractures within the ruling bloc.
The prime minister’s remarks came amid heightened attention on Perlis following tensions among opposition assembly members that led to a change in the state’s leadership. Anwar suggested that such turmoil underscored the importance of political maturity and honest collaboration, qualities he said were central to the current federal administration’s stability.
Beyond domestic politics, Anwar also addressed international concerns, particularly the fragile situation in Gaza. He expressed serious apprehension that any renewed large-scale violence would further devastate humanitarian conditions and extinguish remaining hopes for a lasting peace. Referring to discussions held in Florida on the next phase of peace efforts, Anwar stressed that the path forward must not involve a return to widespread conflict.
He emphasised that Israel must be held fully accountable for its actions and responsibilities under international law, adding that continued violations would only deepen injustice and prolong suffering for civilians. Malaysia, he said, remains firm in advocating for accountability and the protection of basic human rights.
Anwar also responded to reports concerning Israel’s recognition of a territory referred to as Somaliland. He stated that Malaysia unequivocally rejects any such move, particularly if it is linked to proposals involving the forced relocation or expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza. According to Anwar, Malaysia’s stance aligns with that of many countries as well as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, all of which oppose attempts to legitimise actions that undermine international legal norms.
He reiterated that any plan to use another territory as a destination for displaced Palestinians would violate international law and humanitarian principles. Such ideas, he said, would only perpetuate injustice rather than contribute to peace and stability in the region.
Concluding his remarks, Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to upholding the international legal order, both at home and abroad. He stressed that political stability, principled governance, and respect for international law remain central to Malaysia’s approach, whether in managing domestic coalitions or responding to global humanitarian crises.
