PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has positioned the revival and strengthening of Silat as central to shaping a disciplined and resilient younger generation, stressing that the traditional martial art carries deeper cultural and historical meaning beyond physical training.
He said the government is taking the matter seriously and that he has personally conveyed his support to Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, president of the National Silat Federation of Malaysia (Pesaka), as part of a broader effort to elevate the practice among youth.
“This spirit must be cultivated. Silat is more than a martial art; it embodies a timeless fighting spirit shaped by blood, sweat, tears, and sacrifice,” he said at the Madani Pendekar Gathering held at the Pahang Sports Complex (SUKPA) on Friday night.
Anwar described the gathering as a strategic platform rather than a ceremonial occasion, aimed at nurturing a generation capable of defending the nation and safeguarding its dignity through inner strength and unity.
“Don't pay attention to foolish or negative opinions out there. We know our worth. To protect the honour of our nation, we must empower a generation of young people with the spirit and strength to carry it forward,” he said.
Among those present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and the Prime Minister’s political secretary Ahmad Farhan Fauzi.
During the event, former national Silat exponent Fazly Mansoh received the Pahang Madani Pendekar Award, while former national athlete Suzy Mohd Sulaiman was honoured with the Madani Srikandi Award.
The Prime Minister also accepted the PMX Championship Trophy in a symbolic gesture ahead of the two-day competition set to commence at SUKPA. - April 4, 2026
