Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim spends time with the local Chinese community in Chemor, discussing current issues and celebrating a school’s wushu success.

IPOH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today spent time engaging with the local community, particularly Chinese residents, at a restaurant in Chemor here.

The Tambun MP arrived at about 4 pm and was warmly received by residents. He then visited several nearby business premises to mingle with locals.

He spent about 45 minutes having afternoon tea and chatting with around 200 attendees, exchanging views on various issues.

During the casual meeting, Anwar also signed a banner and a plaque for Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Poi Lam in appreciation of the school’s wushu team’s recent success at an international competition in China.

Also present were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and her deputy, Wong Kah Woh.

Meanwhile, special officer to the Tambun MP, Terrence Ng Swee Teck, when met by reporters, said among the matters raised by residents during the session were current issues such as targeted petrol subsidies and the global supply crisis.

He added that the event was also attended by village chiefs, representatives of non-governmental organisations, educators, and headmasters from nearby schools.
