Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged those who have suggestions or concerns about the halal certification process to bring them forward in a formal meeting for proper discussion and review. He emphasized that sensitive issues, particularly those related to religion and race, should not be exploited to create unnecessary controversy.

In response to media questions regarding recent statements made by certain individuals about halal certification, Anwar said, "This is just an individual's viewpoint. If there are suggestions or concerns, they should be presented at a meeting where we can thoroughly examine them... there is no need to stir up controversy."

He added that the regulatory framework for halal certification should be robust enough to ease any concerns among Muslims regarding halal food standards. "However, if someone believes that certain rules are unnecessary for specific areas, it should be discussed properly and in the right forum," he said. Anwar shared these thoughts after inaugurating the country’s first sustainable highway rest and service area (R&R) on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) at the Seremban R&R (southbound).

The event was also attended by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad.

During his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to protect religious matters and preserve the social harmony that Malaysia has built over the years. "We must respect the sentiments of both Muslims and non-Muslims. The issue has been brought up in a constructive manner. Our country is enjoying political stability and positive global recognition—why risk compromising this progress?" he noted.

Anwar highlighted Malaysia's current position of strength, both economically and politically, which has earned global praise. He stressed that this favorable situation should not be jeopardized by unnecessary controversies that could divide the people or affect national unity.

Recently, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) has been considering a proposal to mandate halal certification for all restaurants and food establishments that do not serve pork or alcohol. This idea has sparked debates among various stakeholders.

Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok voiced concerns that such a mandatory requirement could place additional burdens on many businesses, including small, Malay-owned eateries. "We need to consider the practical implications of such rules on small business owners," she argued, reflecting the worries of some who feel that more regulations could complicate operations for smaller establishments.

Anwar reiterated that the appropriate approach is to bring such concerns into official discussions rather than letting them play out in public controversies. He called for rational discourse on the matter to ensure that any new regulations benefit all Malaysians and are not seen as a burden or a source of division.

The Prime Minister's comments highlight the government's intent to handle sensitive issues with care and consideration, balancing the needs of religious communities with economic practicality. As Malaysia continues to navigate its multicultural landscape, such discussions are crucial for fostering unity and maintaining the nation's hard-earned stability.
