KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the police to extend appropriate cooperation to ensure public safety and the smooth conduct of a planned rally in the capital this Saturday.
His senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said the prime minister had taken note of the gathering and urged that it proceed peacefully and in an orderly fashion, in line with constitutional principles and the spirit of reform.
“The Madani government’s stance is clear and consistent — we celebrate democracy. The right to express opinions, including from those who oppose the government, is an essential element of a free and just nation.
“Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, this space has not only been opened widely but also respected,” he said during the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) daily briefing today.
“Any disagreement with the government, including through public demonstrations, will not be suppressed blindly. On the contrary, it is seen as part of a healthy and mature democratic practice, as long as it does not violate the law or threaten public safety.
“Let us continue to uphold democracy with reason, maturity and a sense of responsibility.”
He added that the Madani Government stands firm not by stifling criticism, but by embracing tolerance with compassion and steadfastness.
“We may plan, but Allah is the best of planners and the ultimate determiner of all outcomes,” he said.
On Wednesday, acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said police had received 60 reports nationwide concerning the rally, which is expected to draw between 10,000 and 15,000 participants.
The gathering involves a coalition of NGOs, university students, and members of the public.
Separately, in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations, the PMO also announced the launch of the Bersama Malaysiaku movement — a platform to foster unity and ignite patriotism through public participation.
Tunku Nashrul said the campaign, which runs until September 30, invites Malaysians from all walks of life to submit photos capturing moments of service. The images will contribute to the “Face of Malaysia” project showcasing the nation’s diverse fabric.
“Insya-Allah, selected photos will be featured on the Prime Minister’s social media platforms, government agency channels, television stations and digital displays — reminding millions of Malaysians that independence is not just a chapter in history, but a shared journey driven by each and every citizen,” he said.
He added that the movement is aligned with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan, which the Prime Minister is set to table on July 31. — July 24, 2025
