Anwar invited to Gaza Reconstruction Summit in Egypt by President El-Sisi

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has received an official invitation from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to attend the upcoming Gaza Reconstruction Conference in Egypt, as part of wider international efforts to support the recovery and rebuilding of Gaza.

The invitation was extended during a phone call between the two leaders earlier today, during which President El-Sisi also briefed Anwar on the latest developments concerning the Gaza Peace Plan.

“In a telephone conversation with the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, this evening, I received updates on the Gaza Peace Plan,” Anwar said in a statement posted to Facebook.

“President El-Sisi informed me that current efforts are focused on identifying and recovering the remains of Israeli hostages in Gaza, to ensure the Zionist regime has no grounds to delay or derail the ongoing peace process.”

Anwar further stated that the conversation also touched on the next phase of the peace initiative — the reconstruction of Gaza — as well as the protection of the West Bank and the implementation of United Nations resolutions calling for the establishment of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF).

According to the Prime Minister, El-Sisi also expressed hope that the upcoming visit of US President Donald Trump to Malaysia, in conjunction with next week’s ASEAN Summit, would yield positive outcomes, given America’s pivotal role in ensuring lasting peace in Gaza.

“We agreed on the need to uphold peace, strengthen humanitarian initiatives, and coordinate aid missions for the Palestinian people, who continue to endure prolonged suffering,” said Anwar.

The 47th ASEAN Summit, themed "Inclusivity and Sustainability", will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 26 to 28 October, bringing together the leaders of all 10 ASEAN member states, along with key dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan and India. - October 19, 2025
