Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Youth wing (AMK) has strongly pushed back against PAS Youth’s recent call for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to temporarily step down while facing a civil suit filed by Yusof Rawther. The call, issued earlier this week by PAS Youth Chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden under the Perikatan Nasional Youth coalition, has been labelled as both dangerous and politically driven by AMK.

In a statement, AMK Chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim denounced Afnan’s remarks, arguing that they insinuated executive interference in the judiciary—an accusation he described as deeply irresponsible and without basis. He pointed out that the judiciary had already demonstrated its independence by allowing the case to proceed, underlining that such a move alone signified the absence of any form of political interference.

Kamil further emphasised that judicial proceedings in Malaysia are guided strictly by legal arguments presented before the courts, not influenced by the executive branch. He asserted that this civil suit stands as proof that the Madani Government is committed to maintaining the separation of powers, a fundamental principle of Malaysia’s constitutional framework.

Earlier, PAS Youth had justified its demand by framing the lawsuit as not just a legal matter, but one with moral implications capable of shaping public perception of the Prime Minister’s credibility. However, AMK sees this approach as politically opportunistic rather than ethically grounded. Kamil accused PAS of leveraging the issue for partisan advantage, alleging that such tactics are consistent with the party's history of politicising personal and legal matters.

He also challenged the consistency of PAS’s stance, questioning why similar expectations were not placed on leaders from their own coalition. Referring to the Chief Ministers of Kedah and Kelantan, he suggested that if PAS’s logic were applied fairly, those leaders would also have had to step aside during their respective controversies.

According to Kamil, the evaluation of a Prime Minister’s fitness to serve should hinge on leadership and performance, not speculative allegations or political narratives. He concluded by reaffirming AMK’s full confidence in the Malaysian judiciary, urging all parties to respect the legal process and to stop manipulating court proceedings for short-term political mileage.

In his view, preserving the integrity of the rule of law must take precedence over any attempt to score political points.
