PAGOH: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin says Anwar Ibrahim has doubled down on attacking him after realising that Pakatan Harapan (PH) does not have the support of the majority of voters in the general election.
“Anwar has been making many claims about me. He doesn’t see his party gaining the support of the people.
“So, he has repeatedly attacked me in hopes that I will stumble and he will become prime minister,” Muhyiddin said here last night.
The Bersatu president denied Anwar’s allegations that he received land and money while he was the Johor menteri besar, describing them as “defamatory”.
“I’ve never done those things, Anwar’s accusations are defamatory,” he said, adding that the PKR president was probably feeling the heat with polling just two days ahead.
Anwar had also previously claimed that PN had become the richest coalition after it benefitted from projects worth billions of ringgit during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He claimed that Muhyiddin, who was the prime minister at the time, handed out many projects without tender to certain parties.
Following the allegation, Muhyiddin said he had no qualms providing Anwar with PN’s financial statements on condition that Anwar would do the same.
He also said Anwar has run out of ideas for the election campaign following his call for PN to make its financial statements public.
He said PN had nothing to hide and its financial statements were accessible to the public as they had been audited and submitted to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) as required by law.
