KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said his position on issues involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki remains unchanged from his time in opposition, stressing that investigations must follow due process.
“We should not be prejudiced. Let the investigation establish the facts,” the prime minister said in the Dewan Rakyat.
“Whether I raised it before or not, it is subject to the same process. There must be a transparent investigation into the share ownership and the allegations of a corporate mafia. Neither has been closed.”
He was responding to a supplementary question from Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal on whether his stance had shifted after assuming office.
Anwar questioned why “very harsh views” were being directed at one side when the government was merely asking that the process be respected. He stressed that any probe must be transparent and fact-based, not driven by suspicion.
He said the scope of the investigation had been expanded beyond administrative procedures, with the Attorney General chairing the Special Task Force.
The task force’s report on Azam’s shareholding issue will be ready within days, he added, and any further action, including whether to extend the probe, will depend on its findings.
As such, Anwar described calls for a Royal Commission of Inquiry as premature, urging all parties to await the Attorney General’s report before deciding on next steps. – March 3, 2026
