PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered civil servants to stop using Waze, citing concerns over the security of government information and the protection of users’ personal data.
In a statement today, Anwar said the decision was made in view of Waze Mobile Ltd’s status as the data controller of users’ information and its incorporation and operations under Israeli law.
“Sensitive government information and the public’s personal data must be protected from exploitation by the Israeli regime in ways that could jeopardise the country’s security and sovereignty,” he said.
Anwar also urged Malaysians to stop using Waze and switch to local alternatives such as TuJu, citing the application’s security assurances and personal data protection measures.
He said the Madani government would maintain a firm stance and close any avenues that could be exploited by Israel to threaten national security and public safety.
