KLANG, Aug 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered a comprehensive investigation into Xeraya Capital, a wholly owned subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd, to identify any potential financial irregularities.
Anwar, who is also Khazanah chairman, said a meeting with the board this morning had uncovered concerns over the governance of a company established in 2012.
He said this during the “Temu Anwar” session after officiating the 2026 International Himpunan Anak Muda Kebangsaan (Hamka) here today.
Earlier, in a statement issued by Khazanah, Anwar was quoted as saying: “Upon the Board being made aware, I instructed the Khazanah management to initiate a forensic investigation to the highest standards of governance and due process and, where necessary, to bring in external authorities”.
During the Board meeting, Khazanah, in line with its governance standards, raised legacy issues that need to be resolved, including those involving Xeraya Capital, which manages Khazanah’s life sciences investments.
In July 2026, the Xeraya Board, in carrying out its governance oversight responsibilities, identified irregularities in documentation relating to past transactions and decided to review them further.
“Overall, I am satisfied with the progress made by Khazanah and its management team. I want to encourage them to continue working to advance Malaysia by raising the ceiling and lifting the floor, while upholding good governance, in line with the principles of the Madani Economy.
“I commend Khazanah’s management for its proactive and meticulous approach, as well as its commitment to upholding high standards of governance,” said the Prime Minister.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said firm action to uncover misconduct involving government-linked entities was not personal, but necessary to ensure that losses incurred did not ultimately come at the expense of the people.
He also referred to the latest developments regarding alleged mismanagement at the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), involving the sale of a hotel.
“In the past, Felda was led by (former chairman) Tan Sri Taib Andak and Tun Raja Muhammad Alias. Its management was efficient even though they were not experts in economics or accounting.
“They managed it well, generated billions in profits, and Felda’s plantations were among the largest in Malaysia,” said Anwar.
Taib Andak served as Felda chairman from 1958 to 1971, while Raja Muhammad served from 1979 to 2001.
“Then certain politicians intervened. A hotel worth RM100 million was bought for RM160 million, and the issue has still not been resolved,” he said.
The Prime Minister expressed his disgust with corruption and emphasised his commitment to addressing any misconduct within his administration. — Bernama
