KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered relevant government agencies to urgently locate and contact Malaysians affected by floods in Nepal.

He said the directive also involved the National Security Council (MKN) and Foreign Ministry, with Malaysian embassies in New Delhi, India, and Kathmandu, Nepal, also mobilised to expedite assistance.

“I have instructed all departments, including the MKN and Foreign Ministry, to immediately identify those affected and contact our ministries and embassies in India and Kathmandu to speed up efforts to assist them,” he told reporters after opening the National Innovation and Commercialisation Expo (NICE) 2026 here today.

Earlier, Anwar expressed his concern and sadness over the flash floods that struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district and said the government was working to locate 54 Malaysians who remained unreachable.

Media reports said the flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border yesterday were triggered by heavy rain and a glacial collapse along the Bhote Koshi River.

The disaster disrupted communications and cut off key roads linking the affected area with the capital, Kathmandu, hampering rescue efforts and access to those affected.
