Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has given his approval for an immediate allocation of RM500 million for the initial phase of infrastructure development at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA). The project encompasses the construction of a multi-storey car park and the development of new high-rise blocks within HSA.
Anwar emphasized that the construction of the multi-storey car park would commence this year. He expressed the need for RM500 million in funding for the first phase of the hospital project and confirmed that the Ministry of Finance has expedited its approval.
During his visit to HSA, Anwar was accompanied by Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Health Director-general Dr. Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, and HSA Director Dr. Sal Atan. Anwar highlighted that HSA has sufficient land area, approximately 40ha, to accommodate the new car park and high-rise complexes. This expansion is crucial to address patient congestion and enhance hospital services. Expressing concern over the current situation, Anwar noted that hospital beds were being placed in the middle of the wards due to overcrowding. He criticized the lack of action taken to address this long-standing issue and pledged immediate measures to resolve it.
The approved allocation will facilitate the necessary steps. When asked about plans for the construction of HSA 2, Anwar clarified that HSA 2 would be incorporated into the 12th Malaysia Plan's mid-term review. However, he stressed the importance of addressing the pressing concerns at HSA first, such as the construction of the car park and the development of new complexes. In summary, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim sanctioned RM500 million for the initial phase of infrastructure development at Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
The project aims to construct a multi-storey car park and high-rise blocks to alleviate patient congestion and enhance hospital services. Anwar emphasized the urgent need to resolve the overcrowding issue, stating that immediate action would be taken. The construction of HSA 2 will be considered in the future, with priority given to addressing the current challenges at HSA.
