Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has unveiled his key priorities for 2025, emphasizing improved wages, eradicating hardcore poverty, and accelerating flood mitigation efforts. Speaking at the Prime Minister’s Department Monthly Gathering in Putrajaya, Anwar outlined an ambitious agenda to address pressing socio-economic challenges faced by Malaysians.

One of Anwar’s central goals is to advocate for higher wages, particularly from government-linked investment companies (GLICs), government-linked companies (GLCs), and businesses enjoying substantial profits. He stressed that the government would pressure large corporations to ensure fair compensation for their employees, while exempting smaller, low-income enterprises from such obligations.

“In industries where companies report billions in clean profits, it is unacceptable for wages to remain stagnant. Productivity and profits must translate into fairer pay,” Anwar remarked. He clarified that the wage push is targeted at sectors with significant earnings, ensuring the move doesn’t burden smaller companies struggling to sustain operations.

Alongside the wage reforms, Anwar reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicating hardcore poverty in 2025. Highlighting the human cost of inaction, he stressed the urgency of addressing long-standing socio-economic inequalities to uplift the most vulnerable communities.

Flood mitigation emerged as another top priority for the prime minister, who vowed to expedite critical infrastructure projects to prevent recurring disasters. Anwar underscored the devastating impact of floods on lives and property, emphasizing that delays were no longer an option.

“If the floods take lives and destroy property, waiting six years for solutions is not acceptable. We will reallocate funds, adopt frugality, or borrow if necessary to ensure these projects are completed without further delay,” he asserted. Anwar urged his team to focus on solving urgent issues, emphasizing the need for swift and decisive action.

The prime minister’s remarks signal a proactive and people-centric approach to governance in 2025. By tackling wage disparities, poverty, and climate-related challenges, Anwar aims to foster a more equitable and resilient Malaysia. His emphasis on urgency and accountability sets a strong tone for the year ahead, ensuring that the government prioritizes the needs of the people above all else.
