Anwar's government's pursuit of investigations into prominent figures, including charging Tun Daim and probing Tun Mahathir's children, signals a shift in addressing corruption.

There are 25 living Tuns in the country. Some of these elder statesmen, mostly retired, reside in Sabah and Sarawak.

Notably, targeting Tuns in Sabah and Sarawak brings attention to a region often rumoured to house some of the world's wealthiest individuals. Sarawak Report's exposés on the rich and famous in the region easily come to mind.

If Anwar were to widen the net to include those in East Malaysia, he would be picking up where Sarawak Report left off, broadening the scope beyond traditional figures in Peninsular Malaysia.

While investigating Tuns may prove challenging due to their status, Anwar's commitment to accountability is clear. After all, his goal is to eradicate corruption and bring some of the wealthy elites to justice.

If the government were to expand its efforts to include retired Tuns in East Malaysia, it could unearth long-standing allegations of corruption.

The implications extend beyond legal consequences; they could reshape power dynamics and public perception in these regions.

The move raises questions about the extent of corruption within the political elite, potentially reshaping the socio-political landscape.

However, it also brings the challenge of navigating political sensitivities, given the historical influence of Tuns in Sabah and Sarawak. The success or backlash of such investigations may hinge on the government's ability to balance justice with political realities.

Anwar's actions echo a commitment to combating corruption regardless of political affiliations.

The implications of investigating Tuns in East Malaysia go beyond legal consequences, impacting the perception of accountability and justice in the nation.

Only time will reveal the true impact on Malaysia's political and economic landscape as a consequence of investigations into the affairs of Tuns from the eastern provinces.
