Well, isn't it just heartwarming to know that our dear Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declared a war on wasting electricity and pens in government offices?

I mean, who would've thought that the fate of our nation rested on the responsible usage of office supplies?

In his noble quest to save every last watt of electricity, Anwar declared, "One should not be wasting electricity at the office like it is being paid for by our fathers."

Bravo, sir! I suppose we should all start commuting to work on horse-drawn carriages to truly appreciate the value of energy.

But that's not all, my friends. He's also keeping a close eye on those pens! In a dazzling display of generosity, he outlined the precise pen allocation for various government ranks.

Department heads get five, secretary-generals get ten, and the poor prime minister gets a whopping twenty pens. I bet they're all gold-plated with diamond-studded nibs, right?

Anwar insists that this grand crusade against wastage is about more than just office supplies.

Apparently, every time you leave a light on after hours, a bag of taxpayers' money gets lit on fire in some dark corner of the finance ministry.

The Prime Minister then went on to reminisce about the good old days when he had to personally instruct a department head to turn off the lights at the Jalan Duta office.

You see, it's not their money; it's public funds. That's right, folks, public funds that are apparently a never-ending, bottomless pit of financial bliss, meant to light up our government buildings like Christmas trees.

And just to add a cherry on top of this fiscal responsibility sundae, Anwar announced an early incentive payment of RM2,000 for civil servants.

Because, you know, they've been working so hard at conserving pens and turning off lights. Who needs a well-deserved raise when you can have a pat on the back and a crisp RM2,000 bill, right?

In all seriousness, while responsible use of resources is crucial, it's hard not to chuckle at the theatrical grandeur with which these proclamations are made.

It's almost as if the fate of the nation hangs in the balance of how many pens are stashed in the Prime Minister's office drawer.

But hey, at least we now know that the secret to a thriving economy is as simple as flicking a light switch.
