Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says he always expected his rivals Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin to team up to protect their interests.
“There is nothing new. We knew this group would conspire to protect their ways and interests.
“It is our duty to save the nation and the people,” he told reporters today when asked about the meeting between Mahathir and Muhyiddin.
On Tuesday night, the two former prime ministers met to discuss the “position and future of the Malays”, according to Muhyiddin.

Read more The two-hour long meeting is believed to be the first the two have had since the Sheraton Move in 2020, which ultimately led to the collapse of the Mahathir-led administration, with Muhyiddin replacing him as prime minister.
Previously, both Muhyiddin and Mahathir said they were willing to work with each other for the sake of the Malays and Islam.
In a statement yesterday, Muhyiddin said that during the meeting, Mahathir agreed to “strengthen Malay unity and enhance support for Perikatan Nasional”, particularly in facing the upcoming six state elections on Aug 12.
Mahathir and Muhyiddin are founding members of Bersatu, but Mahathir quit the party in February 2020 after he stepped down as prime minister.
