PETALING JAYA: The federal government has completed the payment of the 2023 special grants to Sabah and Sarawak at the revised sum of RM300 million each.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the implementation of the revised amount, through an interim settlement, was gazetted on Nov 24, Bernama reported.
He added, however, that the federal government and the two states were still in the process of finalising the special grant formula pursuant to Article 112D of the Federal Constitution.
The interim settlement was decided in a meeting of the Special Council on the Malaysia Agreement (MKMA63), which took place on Jan 20, and was presented in the 2024 budget.
The agreed sums are an increase from the established payment of RM16 million per year for Sarawak since 1969, and RM125.6 million for Sabah for the year of 2022.
